Front brake shims
Good morning. I am just wrapping up the front brakes on my car and need a little help. I replaced the rotors and pads and hoses and replaced the RH caliper with a rebuilt unit. I also did the bearings and seals on both sides. My trouble is that upon re-assembly my RH (US Passanger) side rotor is not spinning freely due to the pads contacting the rotor. The new pads came with shims and I installed them on both sides. I have a feeling that if I omit the shims on this wheel then I will have the clearance I need. Is this an acceptable solution? What purpose do the shims serve?
Thanks in advance for the help. Matt

The shims are for brake squeaking reduction.

I agree with previous post. Shims and paste are to reduce squeeling. Is the wheel actually binding or just some drag? Once you break in the pads a bit and if it is still binding, then perhaps the rebuilt caliper is out of spec. It happens.
