82 380SL fuel Pump issue

Hello all! It has been awhile since I posted anything here! I have a fuel pump question, I started my car and pulled up to the side of the house to rinse the pollen off the windshield and while idling, the car just shut off. "Well, that's new," I thought. So I jumped in and turned the key off and then on again to restart and I did not hear the familiar hum from the fuel pump. Of course it would not start either! I turned the key off and on again and still no sound from my fuel pump. Now if we were talking about my husbands Ford, I would say, needs a new fuel pump, but being a MB, it may be one of numerous things. I checked fuses, all ok. will check wiring underneath next. Am I over thinking this? Should I just get a new fuel pump...like I would the Ford...

Before I replaced the pump, I'd take out I'd try fiddling with the black fuel pump relay, located behind the glove box, as the connections on that tend to decay over time. So, sometimes just tapping or removing and replacing it will get the pump to work until you can get a new relay.

If that doesn't work, you can remove the relay and bridge terminals 7 & 8 on the connector, which should get the pump to work if the pump is still good. If that doesn't do it, it probably is the pump.

Alternatively, if you haven't already replaced the relay, you could do that as a preventative measure, since they tend to go sooner or later, and the relay isn't too expensive.

In any case, good luck!

Check to see if power gets to the pump first. Keep in mind the power should only come on for a second when you turn on the ignition switch, then come on again while cranking.

It could be a multitude of things, but a good guess is fuel pump relay.

Well I pulled the relay, opened it, no obvioius toasted parts, snapped it back together, slathered some dielectric grease on pins and holes. No change..I wriggled and pressed in the other relays located above the fuse box and VAAROOOM! The fuel pump actually primes and is quiet, car starts great! So I pulled them one at a time and applied dielectric grease to each pin and hole on all 5 relay thingies.. so far so good! One of them has a fuse it it..?
Thank you to all who answered!

The one with the fuse on it is the Over Voltage Protection relay "OVP"
