Replacing the centercounsel wood on a 1978 450 sl
I would like to replace the counsel covering the radio and gearshift knob. Can anyone tell me where to start taking it out so I can work on the wood. Thanks for any info. Thanks Larry

I've never removed the wood around the gear selector, but for the wood around the A/C, remove the ashtray and there should be a couple of screws holding the ashtray mount in. Remove those screws. Pull down on the wood piece. Should slide right out.
It was last September when I did this. I seem to remember having some difficulty removing the ashtray mount after removing the screws, but I don't remember what I did for that. Hope this helps.

Have a question for you
I have a 1975 450 sl that I would like to put an aftermarket CD player in. When I take out the stock becker cassette player, will the new CD player slide right in or do I have to cut a hole into the center colsole? Thanks for any info!
