1976 Mercedes 450 SL
Bought a 1976 Mercedes 450 SL last weekend. The car is in decent shape but I must admit I have a little bit of buyers remorse. First, I thought that the car may have thrown a rod, because there is a hole in the oil pan, but when we crank the car and the little time it stayed cranked there was no loud noises that would indicate a mechanical problem with the engine. The car would not start. We checked for spark and we have it, check for gas but no gas was getting to the injectors. We could spray started fluid in the intake and keep the car running but it would die once we removed the starter fluid. We had 12 volts at the pump when we turn the key to start, the pump just pulsed for a few seconds. When we put the key to run there was 12 volts at the pump. Assumed the pump was bad, luckily we had another pump and we were able to install it and to see if we could get the car to run we used a jump box to provide a constant 12 volts to the pump. We still couldn't get the car to run. I read several threads about the hole in the oil pan and a safety switch that may cut off the fuel when the oil pressure is low. Another one about the seatbelt system interlock that may be causing it not to run. I just want to install a new oil pan and check the fuel pump relay. We need an engine electrical diagram and any other K jetronic info we can get or other insightful information anyone can provide. Thanks in Advance Airman 450SL in Florida.

You'll probably have more luck with this if you post in either Vintage Mercedes or SL Forum (I would recommend Vintage Mercedes, but I'm sure the SL owners are a fine bunch, too
).

Thanks,
I'm new to the forum, still learning my way around. How do I get to the vintage SL forum? |
