1983 280 SL Euro- muffler

Hello all,
I am starting to hear a wheezing sound from the muffler mid way in the system, right under the drivers seat area.
I crawled under to look and the muffler system looks and sounds like it's seen better days.
Who sells muffler parts for this euro model ? Peachparts does not.
It is a simple system, no cat. just a resonator and a rear muffler it appears.
Also, are there any non stock muffler options like eliminating the resonator or rear muffler that make sense?
thanks
jz

Our 84 280SL has a Timevalve stainless steel system on it.
I've been pleased with it's durability, sound and quality.

I had a custom stainless system made front to back with a Magnaflow muffler and resonator.

Fiddled around with 3 different resonators until I found one I liked.

I "Y"d the 2 down pipes and went 2.5" single pipe to the back.

I used a local muffler shop.

Thanks gentlemen,
Timevalve wants like $990 for full system- 1 resonator and 1 muffler.
I plan to get the car up on a lift on sat to fully inspect.
Nobby, how's the sound on your custom setup?

Well....to me....it sounds Euro. If you can imagine what I mean.

I did have the opportunity to "adjust" the output sound by fiddling with the resonator swaps.

Of course....you could eliminate the resonator with the right muffler. Depends on what you are trying to achieve. I know a guy with an SLC AMG who eliminated the muffler and only uses a resonator.

Sounds amazing....but it suits his particular car.

Nobby, When I drove your car on Saturday I noticed your car does sound particularly well. Hence why I'm sitting right here trying to figure out which avenue I'd like to take.

How'd I miss this post?

Hey Matt....thanks.

I went to a local shop that had a young man that did up the Civic / VW tuner's cars. He had a good imagination and was pretty quick about it. I went in ahead of time so he could measure and count the number of mandrel bends he needed so he was prepped the day of.....all stainless.....all welded. Front to back $800.00.

Chris
