sub-frame mounts rear
Just received new rear sub-frame mounts from performance parts for $49.99 made in India for my '85 SL. The new mounts came with rubber stops which aren't used on the old mounts. In the MB repair manual (page 35.1-040/3 F3) the rubber mounts are listed as part #41 and is not clear whether or not they are used on the 85 SL. Please advise, thank you.

I haven't done this particular repair, but it looks to me like Mercedes recycled some instructions from other models, and that particular part isn't used.
But if you look in the EPC (see attached), you will see there is an additional bushing that comes as part of the repair kit from Mercedes.

This thread on benzworld refers to the donut shaped rubber piece. If I understand correctly it is on top of the frame. Kind of like the EPC picture seems to indicate. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r-c107-sl-slc-class/1478818-r-r-rear-subframe-mounts-560sl.html

let us know how they work out for you. Pics of bushings would be nice to compare. sounds price-wise, what the SLC bushings were going for. If good, sure beats the hell out of what the SL bushings have been quoted at... Several hundred dollars last time I looked.

Instructions from a rather long thread on my PIG.
Rear subframe bushings. Not as much fun as a root canal...but close. 1.5 hrs for the first one and .5 hr for the second. Of course there was no real prep work as the car is in the air already and I loosened the bolts last week. I placed a floor jack under the cross member close to the side I was working on and jacked it up until it bottomed out. I removed the bolts and support plate and then stuck a crowbar under the steel lip of the bushing and pried it out. I then lowered the jack and put it under the control arm. I jacked that up about an inch which dropped the cross member further allowing me to replace the donut bushing on the top side of the cross member. I dropped the control arm and placed the jack back under the cross member and jacked again except I placed a hammer handle between the cross member and the body to replicate the space that is normally there. There are two knobs in the bushing cavity to ensure proper placement of the bushings but you can't see them when you push in the bushing so I scribed two marks where I could see them. I silicone sprayed the bushing and the cavity and pushed the bushing into the cavity using a bottle jack. When it started lifting the car, I stopped and removed the bottle jack. I then installed the support plate and main bolt (with the recommended new washer) and pulled the bushing in the rest of the way (1/4") as I tightened the bolt. I then installed the two NEW bolts and spring washers that hold the support plate to the body. Before everything was torqued, I removed the hammer handle ( at least, I remembered to do it the second time) and then finished the bolts. Jack lowered...and...Bob's your uncle. Taken from my LONG thread: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r-c1...y-started.html

I assumed that you meant "Performance Products," which now seems to be Eckler, rather than "Performance Parts." So I managed to find them there. What I found interesting, though, is that the part is listed for the SL as well as the SLC, even though the SLC supposedly uses a different, rear, subframe bushing. Do you or does anybody else have any ideas as to why this part would fit both? Also, I was wondering whether you've noticed a very big difference in the ride with the new bushings? DD |

This got the parts geek in me going. The number for the coupes is 116 350 00 75, and for the roadsters 107 886 00 35. But these are for the repair kits so maybe the bushings themselves are the same and something else in the kit is different. Visually, the only difference seems to be that the roadster kit has a couple more washers.

Uhh, no. I wouldn't go that far. My "identical" comment was based on the pictures at ********. You would really need to have them in hand to make sure.

I won't spend $300 on another set, myself. I'm open for cheaper ideas.
