1983 280 sl sun visor issue
What a P in the A!
The plastic clip on the end of the drivers side sun visor snapped all by itself. It's the plastic clip that snaps into the female receptacle located on the windshield frame top to hold the visor in place. The plastic piece is the swivel piece around the metal rod that makes up the visor frame. It snapped right where it circles the rod. The visor droops/dangles straight down now in front of my face. I hope I described the broken piece well enough. It seems that I would have to dismantle the visor to install a new clip around the metal rod because it slides onto the end. I would remove the visors altogether but I saw a thread on how to do and it seemed complicated to me. I thought I could just pop on the ball joint connection, but no. Besides duct tape does anyone know a quick fix? Thanks jz |

I got an 86 300SL and I used a tie-wrap the kind with a hole in one end to put the screw through that 's on the windshield side and loop the tie-wrap around the visor side and pull it tight. It seems to be working for now until I can afford to fix it right. Greg. I hope that helps.

The male visor clips
are readily available on ebay and other sources. Installation is easy and well documented (use search). You need only pull the visor along the rod enough to slip off the old and on with the new.
As a temporary fix, velcro works. |

Thanks gentlemen.
I will look to buy the replacement clip. Rocky, I couldn't slide the visor . It seems to be stuck onto the rod. I didn't try to force it though. Should I force a bit and wiggle ? No one commented on the removal of the sun visors. Mine droop anyway so I have them clipped with an alligator clip over the door. Plus I am tall so I never use them. I think their removal would add to the sleekness of the windshield. thanks jz |

To remove the visor from the rod you loosen the screw on top. Rotate approx. 180 degrees while pulling. You will feel when it catches. Then keep puling a bit till it slide far enough to remove the clip.

The rod has a tab that engages a slot on the inside of the visor. Position should be around 30 or 40 degrees relative to the full up position. Loosen the visible screw and apply light outward pressure while rotating downward. You will feel it catch.
