New to me today - 1987 Mercedes 560 SL
Good evening all,
I just purchased this car tonight. The previous owner had it for 5 years and only put 100 miles on it. He purchased it from a deacon from his church. The car has 156,000 mikes and is clean inside and out. I will need to take care of a few minor things and will look to you all for guidance. Thanks Ron

OE spark plugs were non resistor. Hard to find original Bosch non resistor now. I and many others use NGK BP 5 ES. Congrats on the purchase. Looks good.

The leak is along the top of the back window. I deliberately took it through a touchless car wash to check the leak factor. Also a little came in where the top meets the top left corner of the windshield.
This happened when the high preasure spary passed over. I thank you for the spark plugs recomendation. Thanks Ron

Good morning all
Update time: one of tne things the previous owner mentioned is the radio my need replacing. He said he was putting the facaplate back on it, and it hasnn't worked since. Upon investigation, I noticed the #12 fuse was missing. Each time I replaced it, the fuse would blow. I took off the faceplate from the radio and the fuse continued to blow. This morning I removed and disconnected the radio and the fuse still blows. I did check the fusevon the back of the radio, and it is good. Any suggestions of what I might chech next? Thanks Ron

Is the fuse list still attached to the cover? Fuse 12 has many other circuits involved.

Yes the legend is intact. The antenna and several other circuts are listed. He did break the antenna mast wihen removing the car cover. I can't agine that having an impact.

I can imagine it blowing a fuse with the radio on if the mast is still broken and jammed.
The alarm is also on that circuit and at this age is notorious for failing to function properly. I disconnect both plugs to it in my '86 560SL. |
