Hi all,
I have problems with my 380SL. It is generally in good shape and engine/all areas very clean with around 100k miles. I live and tried to pass smog test after purchasing and failed (results below). Car always starts in an instant regardless of all circumstances but just generally smells rich all the time (post warm-up included) which is consistent with results. After spent around 2 days reading and checking, I thought of purge valve based on Symptoms of Bad Purge Valve in Car Engine. Of course, it's not just that. I also did something and made some records. I have replaced the below: O2 Sensor Spark plugs (previous were fairly fouled and not copper) Oil Have excellent service records and the relevant recent replacements have been completed: Injectors 5k miles ago Air filter 5k miles ago Fuel filter/pump 10k miles ago Ignition cap / cables seem to be fairly new Cat converter/exhaust 5k miles ago (strange how I got massive numbers from smog with this) Is any ideas about it? Thanks in advance. |

Does it reach full temp, 87C?

No, not sure what else to do here before getting rid of this thing and probably called ten mechanics and no one wants anything to do with it.

I'm not familiar with this injection system. But some ideas are check the air and water temp senders, air flow sensor, fuel pressure, and the injectors. Pull the plugs to see if they are all in the same condition (look for soot, oil, water). Get an infrared temp sensor and test if it's reaching full temp and if each cylinder is firing.
Does the car idle smoothly? If not then it could be a mechanical problem. |
