Translation to German of "Built, Not Bought"

I am considering a "Built Not Bought" front license plate for when I finally get to drive my 107, because it will look quite factory, but there will be subtle yet significant modifications I have made, like a lower ratio, limited slip differential.

But it would be better if that plate were *in German*!

It's tricky though, because the word "Built" in English here is misused so that the two "B" sounds match. I did not "build" the car from scratch. Therefore, I don't trust Google Translate to understand that.

If there are any who speak fluent German, and also understand the slightly prideful connotation of "Built, Not Bought", would you assist with capturing the connotation in German?

What is the German hotrodder's term for what we call resto-modding?

Does the German phrase "Gebastelt, nicht gekauft" capture the intent well enough that a German "car guy" would "get it"? (I came up with that by using "Crafted, not bought" in Google Translate.)
