Thumbs up

I guess that I fit your mold. I bought my 1980 450sl when I we 75 and am now 78. I did buy a 450slc when I was 50; I kept it for but a year. It was a real problem car.

Bought my 2000 CL500 in 2004. My first Benz.
At the time I thought an SL was a "Chick" car.

Made the mistake of doing the AMG Challenge in 2006.
Within 6 weeks I bought my 2005 SL55.
Nothing "Chick" about an SL55.

I am 53

I'm 66 now, as of 5/7/09, and trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up! I've had my '88 560SL since 2000. It's a sweetheart, and I'm admittedly a bit anal about taking care of it. For example, the undercarriage is washed and waxed once a year....see what I mean. I admired the Merc 2 seater convertibles since the 1970's, wanted one eventually, and now it's mine. Her intrinsic value is in her condition and mileage, and maintaining that relative value is not as much fun (and much more expensive) as it used to be. It may be time to part ways, but to date, I can't bring myself to do it.

Hey! I happen to be 48-49 next month. This must be my 10th SL and my first one was when I was 25. I have been in love with them ever since Dallas...remember Bobby's Signal Red 450 SL?

let me count the rings around my ankles. The Smithsonian carbon dated my birth certificate.

I'm 27. Bran new to the forum and new Benz owner of a 78 450 SLC. Just inherited it yesterday.
Anyone know how much oil goes in these cars? I want to do an oil change on it. Thanks!

I don't get much change out of two 1 gallon jugs. I think around 8 quarts.

Am I an Old Man?

I fell in love with the 107 when I was in 3rd grade!

I lived in California and the doctor who lived next door bought one in Signal Red with Palomino leather interior. A brand new 1980 450 sl.

I was always over at their house pulling weeds and helping pick up the grass clippings when her son was mowing... I would work in the yard then she would take us both to the arcade or out for ice cream in her new car with the top down.

That was the best, riding in a red convertible in the small jump seat in the back...Seemed much bigger then.

I bought mine when I was 28 from a wrecking yard.

I'm 37 now and still working on it!~ You never really finish a project car...

Mine is a 1977 450 SL. But I just sold it on Sunday to a 70+ couple. I know they will take good care of it. I got $4700 for it, probably a little cheap, but I need another one to work on, I got this one running and looking great. By the way, I am 45 and I am hoping to purchase another one within the next couple of weeks. One that needs work of course!
