Looking at R129 SL300 - 92 = Opinions?

There is an offer we are looking at. Blue with 47K clocked. 24 valves. Said to be in good condition.

Will be viewing tomorrow.

Is there anything we ought to look out for in particular?

I have a 92 SL300. Had it for awhile, no problems whatsoever. Mine was a one owner always serviced at the Benz dealer. Mint condition. I think what's important to consider on any used benz, is how it was serviced and treated by the owner. Stay away from any car where you cannot determine the service history or the previous owner. There are many used SL's around that have this info and have been kept and serviced on a regular and pampered basis. Wait to find a good one. The 92 300 is a great car. I attached a picture of mine. Good luck in you finding and purchase of the SL, you won't be dissapointed.

I own a 1991 300SL that was a California car before I owned it. Having said that: on the car you are looking at, open the doors, get down on the ground and look up at the underside of the door. Check for rust at the seam which runs along the bottom between the weather seal and the door panel bottom. I was very surprised to find mine severely rusted. The only rust on the entire vehicle. Even if the car is only washed, apparently water sits in there because it is a tad higher than the drain holes.

Thank you all for the constructive comments.

I am hoping to view this SL soon. Hope to post some details and pics upon doing so.

I have requested to view the complete service record - it is currently having its top engine seal replaced. As far as the workshop tells me, this car is in excellent condition with full service history.

Now, that I would have to find out myself.
