Blower Motor Replacement 87 560SL

How much trouble am I in? I started replacing the heater blower motor. Looked simple enough. Until I broke two rusted bolts holding the motor down. Also, I decided that since I was replacing the motor, I would replace the cover, cover gasket and the blower motor seal. I have the CDs from Mercedes and from the looks of it I have to remove most of the interior to put things back in working condition. Any suggestions?

BOB,

I've done it / really not that difficult , just requires patience
Cover panel available from Mercedes for $26.00 . After you get the blower motor out remove the clips encasing the motor with a small screw driver carefully so the clis don't fling across the garage . If your motor was just making alot of noise and sop / start , it make just need everything cleaned . Mines' been working great ever since

regards, Perry

Perry,

Thanks, but I've gone beyond repairing the motor. I acutally have the new blower motor. My problem is that the two front bolts holding the motor down snapped off when I was removing the old motor. I need to know how to go about replacing these. I can't get to them from under the blower motor case unless I drop the heater box. I'd like to avoid that if possible.

That happened to me on my 380SL.

I ended up using two short but fat sheet metal screws to hold the front part down. I drilled two holes in the blower base then two smaller holes in the cowl sheet metal, and put the screws in. I would guess that the screws are about an inch or so from the remains of the front bolts.

Thanks Chuck,

That will work for holding down the blower.

Did you change the rubber seal under the blower motor?

No - it seemed OK.

While you are in there, I highly recommend checking the drain holes that are in the corners just outside the blower cavity.
