Parting a Calif. W123 coupe

I regret to say the time has come to salvage the rust-free parts from my '82 300cd. I bought this car in Los Angeles in January 2000 and drove it home to Wisconsin. It was rear-ended on D-Day 2003 but I drove it for another 39,000 miles before the transmission started slipping. The engine has been a little quirky as long as I've owned it: plenty of power but blow-by was sufficient to push the dipstick out if it wasn't inserted carefully. Still, I drove the car 80,000 miles, replenishing the oil with a quart every 1,000 miles.

The doors are rust-free, as are the rockers and rear quarter panels (the right rear took the hit but the left RQP is perfect). The driver's door has a new window regulator. The passenger door has a minor dent, got a little too close to a pillar in a parking garage, looks like. Still a very sound door, IMHO.

Anybody out there trying to restore a W123 coupe? I'll sell this car whole or part it. It's not 100% complete but so far my cannibalism has been fairly minor: for instance I put its rebuilt vacuum pump and the seat back pads onto my 300TD (yes, the seat backs were a little too tall but I made them work).

It still has a fresh Bosch rebuilt starter, new defrost vacuum pod, working cruise and A/C, and of course a lot of rust-free metal. It does have the stainless wheel well skirts -- I just noticed a rivet popped loose from one of them on the left front fender. The ACC has a Siemens motor.

The 6000U Hirschman power antenna is fully functional with a fresh mast and bearing in the pinch roller. Front wheel bearings are also new and the exhaust is rust-free. I could go on...but pls PM me with any questions. Digital photos available on request.

Like a lot of you, I love these old W123s. I hate to see this one go to the crusher and I hope someone out there can use some of its elements.

Thanks for taking time to read this.

Coupe parts!

What color is the interior? If it is black, I'd love to get the driver's side sun visor.

Would also like to get the cruise amp. Is the '82 electronic or vacuum cruise? If it is electronic (as my '83 is) then I'd want the amp.

Other seemingly-insignificant parts that I need are the two windshield washer spray nozzles.

Let me know.

The interior is palomino and pretty sun-blasted. The visors are pretty good -- the driver's has a little peeling where the shaft joins with the panel but it's not too noticeable.

The cruise amp is the 14-pin unit that works with the motor actuator. I bought it myself (used) to replace a burned-out amp.

Franbev, PM is coming your way.

Mrhills, have you read this guide concerning the actuators? Just thot it might be of help.

Driver's side rear wheel carrier

Hi;

I'm looking for a driver's side rear wheel carrier, but it might be MUCH easier to deal with the control arm as a whole.

I'd be willing to take both if I can afford to, shipping would be to Anaheim, Ca 92806.

Thanks,
Jim Dolan

Jim, no offense, but I can't believe you're having trouble finding such a part in Southern California. It's got to be cheaper to buy one on the Left Coast than it would be to ship from Wisconsin. Have you tried Sun Valley Mercedes Dismantlers in Sun Valley, Calif.? I'm not sure if Onager is still in business in Chula Vista, but that might be another source.

I know a guy looking for a rear window, and the small passenger side rear window that doesnt roll down. Its for an early 80's 240D, looks identical to my 82 300D. Does the CD have matching windows? If available, I'll pass on the information to him.

How about $30, shipping via USPS prioritymail included. It is a road-tested, working amp I bought used to replace the original toasted unit.

It's not a power mirror. And there's a rock dimple or two on the housing. Mirror itself is fine. $40?
