I hope you find one since I need one as well! I'm not even sure what to look for yet.

Is that the same flywheel that came off of a 190D 2.5 5-speed? I've got the complete setup in my garage...

Wont work

Good luck, a lot of many people want to do what you want to do. In the end you want gain much speed at all.

Best bet is to get hold of euro 300D non turbo because a manual was never made for the turbo verison of the 300D.

Just curious, do you guys have something against a custom built flywheel? They're probably easier to have made, than find...

300d 5 cyl stick flywheel

Hi, The 300d 5 cyl stick flywheel is balanced to the motor--and indexed from the factory to balance the motor, there is NO way an average flywheel producer is going to recreate a suitable replacement part for the benz part!

There was a guy parting out a 300D on craigslist with a manual transmission. I told him I would give him $100 for the flywheel and clutch pressure plate and could pay him on Thursday (he lives 2 hours away and I don't get paid until Wednesday) and was willing to pull them myself. He said "deal" and that he would call me if that day wouldn't work out for him. Well, yesterday he sent me an email saying he sold them. Imagine my disappointment! So much for my 1967 fintail turbo diesel project being done this summer.

Forget a 617 flywheel and use a 616 flywheel. It bolts up and the 617 will still idle fine. You will even get a bit better performance with less mass on your engine.

a very good machine shop can make anything you want with really good quality, sure it wont have a fancy tri star and part number on it, but it would get the job done. Never under estimate a machine shop.

Yeah, and if it's matched to the engine, then it won't match your engine anyway then, right? But then, if you guys are talking $100 parts, well, that's why the machine shop is out of the question.

This is no more true for the five cylinder than any other 123 series engine. Any of them might be balanced with the crank.

The 300 specific flywheel is essentially the same as a 240 d flywheel except the 240 is IIRC, 28# and the 300d is 38#.

The 240 fw works fine but the car shifts differently than a 300 fw equipped car. I have one of each. The 300 is superior but if you never drove one with a proper 300 fw you would think the 240 fw is just fine.

In my 82 300cd we installed a 340 fw and four speed.

In my 83 240d with 300d na we used a euro 300d na fw.

BTW I priced a brand new 300d fw about ten years ago and at that time you could get one from the factory for about 300 some $. I suspect it would be more now.
