There are times when money orders make sense, and some times when PayPal is better.

Example where money order is good -

Forum member is selling high-dollar part, say for a price of $400 for a pair of Euro lights. The extra $1.50 service fee on the money order is a very small percentage of the total purchase price for the buyer. The PayPal fee would have been fairly high for the seller. Seller might have been harder to negotiate with if they knew they had a 2.9% fee to pay - might have held firm at $415 or something like that. In the long run, everyone wins - buyer saves money, seller saves money. Now, there are times when the seller might be fine with eating the fee in order to get the money right away or the buyer might have paid more to get the item shipped sooner - then PayPal still makes sense.

On the other hand, for something small like a trunk badge for $10, requiring a money order is a lot to ask. You're asking someone to pay over 10% extra for the part after service fees. On the other hand, the 2.9% paypal fee is fairly small on this part for the seller.

It is what it is, and you can accept whatever forms of payment you're comfortable with as as seller. But since the subject has devolved to that, it's worth discussing the limitations.

In the 5 years in our house, I have had 4 checks "lost" in the mail. Since we began paying with PayPal, not a single issue. Granted I send the payment as a gift.

Even high dollar things, I would much rather pay a meager fee than to have a money order lost in the mail. Who do I complain to? Certainly the store I purchased the money order is not going to refund my money.
