temporary flat spots
i am buying a "new" never tited magnum. it is an 05. it does show 567 miles. when i test drove it it had a shimmey in the front. i asked them to check the tires and wheels. they say they checked the wheels for balance and they are ok. they say it has flat spots from sitting on the lot for almost 2 years. does this make any sense? they say it will come out of it. i cannot believe they didnt move the car around every month or so.
so they say they will replace the tires if it doesnt go away. should i accept the car this way? i think it will be a bit of a hassle if i have to go back and get tires replaced. the car is being bought through the local dealership but it is coming from their frankfort dealership about 45 min away. tom w continental tires 225/60/18 i think.

Tom I am going to say yes. Even with some of my vehicles that I will bring out of the garage every 6 mo. or so they have a warped ride until the tires get a few miles on them. One thing for sure if it doesn't go away after a good hours drive you know it's not the tires. Have the salesman write a comment on the buyers order about the tire problem. If there is a problem you have something to go back on.

i was reading a MB technical bulletin concerning flat spotting of performance tires.
They say to move the car several feet every 30 days and to increase inflation to 44 psi while in storage. They say these tires are made with a nylon overlay to give the tires the capabilities but the nylon has memory retention and may develop flatspots. I think you should test drive car - tires - over a wide range of speeds to make sure nothing has set in. And test to make sure the lomg period in storage hasn't caused other issues. I had a charger V-6 as a rental car a few weeks ago and it was a great drive, big tires. |

after driving the car a couple of hundred miles it still shakes. it is not horrible. most folks might not even notice it. it actually feels a little more random than tires.
