Tire Flatspotting

What's anyone's experience with tire flatspotting? Looked at a car the other day that sits a lot....owner rarely drives it. As a result, the tires had flatspotted and were thus causing vibrations. Does that sort of thing typically go away after a few hundred miles of consistent driving? Or should I assume that the tires are shot?

Did the tires have pressure or are they flat spotted from being flat? My wife's cousin drove away the other day on tires that sat uncovered on pavement for over 2 years. Tire pressure dropped to 24 psi all around. The thumping is much reduced after 20 miles on the freeway. It's different from the shimmy of wheels that need balancing.

If you don't think age and dry rot are concerns, drive on those tires to see if you get lucky. Or does this factor into your offer to buy it?

I'd say the tires are not going to recover. plan on replacements.

Not necessarily I had an issue with flat spotted tires on my 240D when I first got it since it sat for a few years between the time my grandmother stopped driving and when she passed away and they recovered with use and lasted for about 3 years. That being said one of them did let go on the highway. YMMV
