Had my MXV4s for some years now, no issues.

The G-Class that I just bought sat for 6 months and it also does not have any dry rot on its Michelins.

Ya know, I can never figure statements like this out. So many people complain about noise on the Pilot Sport, but mine are the smoothest and quietest tires Ive had (3 sets, 3 diff Benzes)

Most ANY tire will ride and handle well for the first 1000 miles (when new). The quality (or lack thereof) will show through pretty quickly, however.

It may be important to note that mine are A/S and A/S plus, not the "summer" Pilot Sports.
You don't know what you have until it's gone- with that said the Hankooks are an improvement for my type of driving.

No real complaints about Pilot Sports- I just see it as a sort of waste when my car is really just a DD- it's awfully expensive when you average 15K + yearly to drive on those. Hankooks at less than 50% the cost of PS it was worth a try.

Pilot Sports are also an older design, things have changed you don't see as many directional tread designs coming out anymore.

I just attribute the upgrade on the Hankooks to the fact they are geared towards more pedestrian use than PS are, that's all.

They are good tires tho, both of 'em. I am a Michelin fan, but until they come out with something more cost effective I am happy with what I got.

Anyone know what happened to MICHELIN?? Did they get bought out?? They are PURE GARBAGE. I've had the EXACT same issues on MULTIPLE SETS. These are NOT made like they use to be(OEM MXV4 on W124). DIMPLES on the sidewalls & dry-rot= JUNK!!

Love Michelins. Never had a problem. Old tires would be the fault of the dealer, not the manufacturer. Check the date codes?

I dunno about dry rot but have always found Michelins to be medicore tires. Comfortable but even some of the high performance ones squeal like pigs. I much prefer Bridgestones. Have had great luck with Potenzas.

I have Pilot Sport A/S on my car and chunks of rubber are coming off the outer and inner edges of all 4.

The initial at-a-glance diagnosis was that it was an alignment or tie rod issue. That proved false. Today, when getting my brake fluid flushed, the tech confirmed my suspicion: These are crappy tires.

They are too new to dispose of now, but I will definitely be returning to Yokohama next time around.

Another data point:

I do a fair amount of work for a scrap metal yard fixing their electrical equipment. As a result I have choice of tires that come off of scrapped cars. Usually the Michelins have at least fine checking on the sidewalls and usually cracks between the tread grooves. No other brand looks like this unless they are very old and weathered.

Goodyears seem to get tread groove cracks but the side walls hold up.

I attribute tread cracking to high miles and side wall cracking to poor rubber.

I have a set of fairly new recap tires from a box van, 2 are Michelins and two are generic, both Michelins have cracked side walls. These were even on the inner tandems so sunlight isn't an issue.

I replaced the Michelins today because over the past week, the front passenger tire began exposing the belt.

The technician immediately said "alignment" but after checking saw that my alignment was perfect and not in need of any adjustment. So I guess I was another Michelin Dry Rot victim.

The new Yokohama Avid ENVigors are great -- it's good to again feel like I am glued to the road.

I have had best luck with Michelin. I have tried many other brands but for the car I want for going out and driving all day I will always want Michelins on it.

I put four Michelins on my car two years ago. I drove it for six months and then parked it for a year and a half. The two on the south side of the car have small cracks on the sidewalls. The two on the north side look perfect. All four ride great and hold air just fine.

Did someone buy out Michelin? Ha! Good luck with that! Do you have any idea how big Michelin is? IF, and that is a big IF, there really is a dry rot problem with them it is probably some made for Walmart by one of the old technology plants that they took over when the bought out other manufacturers.

I have an old scar on my R cheek from a rollover accident. I was a passenger in a VW that had a blowout. I crawled out of the windshield opening after the glass busted loose and while waiting for the ambulance I looked over the tires, they were sticking striaght up as the car came to rest on the roof. Michelins, with cracked sidewalls!
Flash forward 40 plus years and my newly acquired '99 E300D has Michelins and they WHINE at freeway speeds. I can't wait to get rid of them.
OTOH Bridgestone discontinued the Potenza Pole Position (RE920S?) on my blue '87. I really wish they hadn't done that but they have a newer model and I'll probably choose that for the '99. I've tried a half dozen brands and for the performance and wear factor Potenzas seem the best compromise (every tire has to compromise something, right?!)
