18x8.5 to wide?
I've been looking at different wheels for my w201 but the wheels I like the most are 18x8.5. Is 8.5 to wide for a w201

unless you want to start rolling your fenders, yes.
even if you roll the fenders there will most likely be rubbing against the shock tower and on turns. 18 x 8.5" rims will need something along the lines of a 245/35-18 tire (if they even make that size). 245/40-18 will be too tall and 225 or narrower you'll be stretching the tire to keep the bead seated. bear in mind that these numbers are for a 2.3-16 which has shorter tires from the factory. i believe that all other W201s were issued tires that were 1/2"-1" taller than a 16v.

I would not recommend anything over 8.0" wide on a 201 chassis car
