Joseph,

Sorry about that, GTG = Get Together. If you look in the Hot Rods Forum you'll see my post. Hot Rods Forum is where most of the 500E guys post, we sort of hijacked it!

Here's Micheals thread:

Do you have any pics of your car?

Thumbs up Nice ...

You betcha ... old school look, looks great.

rbn3, maybe our 500s are brothers? My 500 was originally sold in the Chicagoland area! My build date is 12/91 ... one of the early units.

Due to the time spent (40k miles) in your part of the world, the outer shield of the exhaust system is rusty (some areas have holes) thanks to that other white stuff. No exhaust leaks though. Did you replace your muffler because of rust and how does it sound?

No snow...

The car was a Texas car and hasn't seen Illinois snow - i don't drive it from October thru most of March. The Renn tech muffler has a nice respectable power tone. I drive a 1991 300TE 4-matic in the winter and had to replace the muffler after only 10 years.

rbn3,

Sweet color, you realize how rare black is? Have any closer pics of the car and the wheels?

Thumps up!

As a 190 owner, I will say that the Evo II rim is my favorite wheel Mercedes has ever produced. Talk about ahead of its time too! That wheel was out in 86!

Nice choice!

RH-Alurad makes a monoblock replica in 17x9. I'd be curious to know if you are experiencing excessive wear on those 275's on 8" rims? I was getting center wear even with 9" rims!

Norman: this may help you picture how your car would look when lowered....

The only excessive wear I am getting is due to the excessive 1st gear starts :-)

No unusual wear at all, completely even across the tire.

What pressures are you running? I am running 30psi.

CHeers
Matt.

Thanks Cazzzidy ... I agree with you that the EVO II wheel, either on the W201 or W124 looks great. One of my favorites. Many of us are jones'n for 18" though ... I have something up my sleeve ... time will tell.

Fabricatore, welcome to our Forum ... good to have you!

And Mr. Early Bird, name the place and the time ... I'm very cocky right now since I've been running with the F&P cars! Grrrrr

Matt, that may be the difference. With my 275/45R-17 Pilot Sports, I was running 32psi in the rear for racing. With high speeds the pressure was probably getting up too high.

I've since learned the Tire Rack has published some excellent info on Michelin Pilot Sport tires for competition. For road racing, they recommend a cold tire pressure of 25-28psi, rising to 32-36psi hot.

Interesting, they say the cornering/braking/acceleration "sweet spot" for camber with the Pilot Sport is from -1.5 to -3 degrees. After installing H&R lowering springs, my rear camber changed to
-2.7 degrees, which is right in there.

Interesting, I might drop my pressures slightly then to 28psi.

I would have thought that -3 degrees would chew tires, how is the inner edge looking?

I am about to fit a kmac camber kit and readjust the self levelling to get the rear a bit lower so I would be interested to hear your feedback on tire wear at that camber setting.

Matt.

Matt, I've measured 5mm remaining tread depth on the inside and 6mm on the outside of those big rear tires. That is after three years of summer driving but only for the last year was the car lowered.

FWIW, the Pilot Sport Cup competition tires come with 5mm tread so these babies are just in their prime!!

There is no evident scuff or abrasion to the inside shoulder or tread. That would jive with Tire Rack's statements that the tire likes more negative camber.

The pleasure is all mine! I've always loved the EVO II wheel. Besides the great looks, I like the fact that it's easy to clean ... not like the OE 8 hole wheel.

My best to you ...
