W140 wheels on a W124 wagon

Rims: Satin Finish D-Hole Rims. W140, 7.5 x 16" ET 51 with 205/55-16 Tires.

I tried to mount W140 rims on a W124 Wagon. The rears fit fine.
The fronts fit but the rim edge rubs the strut. It looks like I could remove the strut and indent it more on a press. But i wonder the diameter of the monotube inside the shock. Most of the shocks I took apart before had a 28mm tube inside. So it seems I could smash it the required 5mm more space I need.

I don't really want to install spacers because they wont be hub centric unless they are 10mm thick.

Anyone got a solution?
