1983 500sel
I have a 1983 500SEL that I need to sell. I had 121,000 miles when the odometer stopped. I would guess I have driven 15,000 since then. Mechanically it’s in good shape. It does have several little problems though. The blower occasionally works, the driver side window doesn’t work, the speedometer is inaccurate, the rear bumper is pushed in (it’s not too bad but it is noticeable), the trunk leaks, and the antenna does not move.
I am wondering what I should put for an asking price and what I should expect to get. Even though I have had it since ’02 I still can find very little about the ’83 500SEL, so any help there would be great. |

The 500SEL wasn't sold by MBUSA in 1983. I suppose the 1984s were offered in late 1983 but they weren't 1983 models. Point is, you have a privately imported European car if it's in the US. It can be a little more difficult to register and insure but it'll have features not available in US models. Unless it has some feature someone really wants, I doubt it'll net you more than a 1984 500SEL in similar condition. IMO you'll be lucky to get $2000 for it since the price of that series is being pushed down by the series that followed it.
