Thumbs up The TD Hunt

I'm still out there looking...

I've gotten a lot of good leads from folks here and oddball ones keep popping out of the woodwork but , folks have to either answer the dang 'phone or return 'phonecalls & E-Mails..

Not lying to me about it actually running before having me schlepp out there would be nice and yes , I'll buy in a salvage title or bill of sale but NOT going to hand over the bengamins for a car with a brandy new ,99 cent key and no paperwork whatsoever

Yesterday I found a nice 1987 300TE in Manila Beige with a super clean interior but I really do want another Diesel and I know one is out there , I can feel it

Thumbs up Patience , It's A Virtue

That I happen to have

I'd just like to nail one down whilst SWMBO is still on my side here , she's been really good about me being an old car nut junkyard kinda guy - not many like that around you know .

I got an off list note about one in Fla. that looks cheap , another in S.F. that looks too good to be true but is really $pendy

Time will tell .

Looks like we'll have a TD before I have the engine in my Coupe fixed... I don't mind but for the initial smoke and chugging for two blocks every morning...

Diesel smoot & oil droplets all over the cove too rather pisses me off but it runs well and gets good fuel mileage so I'll live with it for a while yet .

.

Andrew your kidding right? That is one of my favorite wagons (and color on a wagon) I've seen in person. I figure you'd own that forever.

Boy it didn't take long for someone to notice that. It felt funny to write that I would be selling it. Yesterday I pulled it onto the side of the driveway, where it will probably sit for a while. I love the car too, but my 240 is in better shape and easier to work on, and if I keep the wagon I will have three cars and I have no need for three. One would sit all the time, and well all know that sitting is no good for these old cars.

Hey that looks familiar!

China Blue is a great color, although it does get "milky" after a while. Very pretty though.

Mine has a turbo though!
I've only seen one twin in person in the 5 years I've owned it. I do like the color combo. Better than the classic white with palamino that is so common. My dream wagon is a red with black interior powered by a turbo 617 and a manual trans.

Try this but you don't need a gallon. Paint will look like the day it left the showroom. China blue is the best color. I also have a china blue with dark blue interior wagon that will soon be on the market. 170K miles and I'm the second owner. Previous owner was a doctor and I have a huge stack of maint. papers.

Thumbs up China Blue

To me , this is one of the ' light colors ' I'm interested in as they look so nice .

I am not sure what the difference between Pacific Blue and Navy Blue is , any chance of some interior pix ? .

Once this paint has been scrubbed to rid the chalky look (" milky ") it can be sealed so it won't get that way again .

800+ miles / weekly and that's regular, when I'm on vacation , I drive more .

I can't imagine you preferring a modern TDI over this car but then I'm old so I have little use for modern cars . I don't own any .

Bad thing about those early Glassurit (SP?) sap-based enamel paint jobs; they do oxidize. Good thing? It's about an inch thick, and a good compounding will (almost) always restore it to its original luster, can't beat that deep-color look.

I'm not really replacing the wagon. My wife drives the 240D on the highway, and it just doesn't keep up with traffic, and she wants AC. Also the family will be getting bigger in the couple years, and we want something that has airbags and modern safety equipment. With kids in the future, as much as I love working on these cars I can't and don't want to spend all my free time fixing two old MB's, there is always something that needs to be fixed. I will still have one to wrench on maintain.
