1983 Mercedes-Benz 240D Euro 4spd Manual
900 Surf Blue on blue cloth interior

Grey Market car with european short bumpers, rear headrests and gauges. Manual windows, manual climate control, manual transmission, automatic sunroof. Mileage is unknown, see below. Unfortunately the lights have been converted to DOT spec, and a non-functioning EGR valve is present. Otherwise, thoroughly a Euro Car.

Overall: Excellent driving car, smooth shifting, 35mpg is not a problem. Starts excellent when cold, cruises nicely at 60mph. Purchased 2 years ago with a large amount of work done to bring the car up to standards. All work performed by me with much help from this forum. Just drove to Philly without hesitation.

Why I’m selling:
1. Vehicle has a leaking heater core which is bypassed (no heat!). Includes aftermarket seat heater, keeps me comfortable down to about 45 degrees. Without heat, I was using the 240D only on ‘nice’ days, when I should be driving the Porsche.
2. Just bought s38junkie's 1986 300D Euro in response to my wife’s desire for a safer 'second vehicle'. Our first child is on the way.

Unknown mileage. Car came with a U.S. cluster out of a 300D that claimed over 200k miles, speedo was way off. Engine starts like it has far less than that, transmission is from a later car according to the VIN. I put in a cluster from a Euro with 250K KM with a temperamental odometer. I won't guess at mileage further.

The Good
-- Very low blowby, burns a quart in 2500-3000 miles.
-- Starts easily in all weather, glow plugs all work and test well
-- Interior in good shape, blue dash cracked, as they all left Singelfinden
-- Blue Hub-caps all present, 1 has minor scratches on the edge

Large amount of work in the last 10K miles:
New interstate battery, Alternator, upper control arms and bushings, sway bar end links, idler arm bushing, steering shock, motor mounts, half-shaft, new clutch master cylinder, new slave cylinder, tie rods, aligned, front brake pads & sensors (others are fine,) all fluids (Coolant (Zerex G-05), Power Steering, Differential, Oil, Trans) renewed, all new filters (fuel and air), updated primer pump, Injection pump delivery valve seals, new vacuum pump to brake booster hose. Lots of small stuff (door strikers, vacuum lines, PS lines, etc etc.).

-- Radiator has been replaced at some point (has a tranny cooler in it)
-- No interior or trunk leaks
-- Power sunroof works
-- Tracks straight, Cruises at 55 like that’s it’s job.

I bought this car because it was the most solid, car with the least rust under $5000 I could find in the mid-Atlantic. Floors are solid, jack points are solid, no leaks! I must have personally looked at 10 cars. That said, there is rust which is all non-structural, see below.

Not a showroom car (the bad):
Body
--Clear coat peeling on roof, small bit on hood (pictures taken at night to show this at it’s very worst. Very difficult to tell in daylight), very minor body dings.
-- 2 small rust spots/holes in rear fenders (primered and repainted, see pics),
-- One small rust hole in driver’s rocker under rear door, road grime built up and rotted this from the inside.
-- Very small rust spot was beginning along bottom of driver's floorpan (undercoat removed, rust stopped, primered).
-- Tiny piece of plastic grille missing, headlight doors in less than perfect condition
-- Small ding on rear bumper, see photo.

Mechanical
--Front main seal has some seepage, front of the engine is a little dirty.
--Transmission pinion seal has a small amount as well, added less than 8 oz of fluid over 10k. Differential is dry unless you overfill it.
-- No A/C. Compressor is in my basement, it’s not going to get fixed.
-- Installed a set of Febi Tie rods and had the boots tear in months, second time I've done this on a w123 and had them tear. So it's probably not a big selling point when I say...includes 2 new Febi tie rods.
-- 1 replacement half-shaft makes a clatter if you let the drivetrain wind up (i.e. coast to a stop without clutching in). Has done this for 10k, but is fine if you clutch in. These are not the $60 Advance Auto half-shafts that grenade.
-- Tires are probably 30%, fronts are worn worse from bad camber before UCAs were replaced.

Interior
-- No Radio currently, can include the stack of non working Beckers I purchased ...
-- Manual front-fender antenna broken long ago by some PO, can include a generic replacement.
-- Auto locks do not work, vacuum line from engine compartment was cut
-- One rough spot on the passenger’s seat, which leans a bit on the bottom

I will not part the car, sale is for the complete vehicle only! I am going to list this on Craigslist locally (with the usual Craigslist bargaining margin,) but would much rather sell to a member here who will enjoy the car and continue to take good care of it.

Bump for a good guy and honest seller. I've driven and worked a little on this car and it is very well represented in this ad. The one thing that stands out the most from driving this car was how smoothly it seemed to go down the road. On that note, I'm kind of surprised that I'm the first non-seller post on this thread. Someone buy this car -- manual 240D's are awesome!

...I'm pretty sure I put him over the edge on buying his 240D.

I'm willing to talk price if that's what is keeping everyone away.
