1995 E300 Diesel

Price - $2000

I picked the car up from the second owner in Tennessee about 2-3 years ago. There were no service records that came with the car, PO bought it from a dealership in Knoxville and stated that the car was taken care of, I took it with a grain of salt, but it showed with the way it ran and looked. I picked the car up with 195K miles, now it is at 212K. I bought the car to take road trips in due to the reliability of the OM606 and the gas mileage. The best I have ever hit was 37MPG with a passenger and a lot of gear.

At 195K miles I did,

Transmission Fluid, filter, gasket -- Dextron Mercon III, with a mann filter
New fuel filters/in engine bay fuel lines
Misc. filters
Idler arm bushings
Steering Dampner
Front Tierods
Center drag link
Belt tensioner shock
Coolant Flush
Oil flush
Front Flex Disk

I kept up on maintenance of little things as needed, there wasn't a lot as to why I cannot think of them. All the work was done by me, I am experienced in working on w124s. All parts were either from Mercedes or an OEM supplier

Oil has been done every 4000 miles with Brad Penn Diesel oil, last oil change was with diesel synthetic. Has about 300 miles on it. The car starts and runs like a top. On cold days it will be a little rough for 10-20 seconds and then smooths out. I do have 5 new glow plugs that go with the car. The car idles right around 6-7 hundred rpm, no noises, squeaks, or squeals. The car will cruise at 80 all day long, no hesitations. I trust driving this car to California today. The ASD (Limited Slip) system works perfectly, heated seats work, very good MB Tex interior, paint still has a good shine to it. There is no rust on the car. All windows work, heater works, compressor works but not the AC. The headliner gets saggy on the 94-95 w124s, so I secured it with thin sewing needles, I could have done a better job but I had no time since the next day the car was going on a trip to Michigan. The last big trip it was on was about a year ago when I took it up to Michigan for camping, about 1000 miles round trip.

There are some issues with the car. Someone backed into the car and caused damage to the drivers front of the car. The fender will need to be replaced as well as a new headlight. If interested, I will have a headlight in about a month that I will include. I can also try and source a fender. You can see in the pictures that you will need to take a hammer to the car right above where the headlight sits. The hood still latches. I've only driven the car about 200 miles since last year. It sat in a garage in the winter, and now it is sitting outdoors. The transmission was giving me a slight slip going into second, so I bought a B2 piston kit, I didn't install it since that issue has not come up again. There is a thud sometimes when the car shifts, that is due to a worn differential bushing. On cold days the linkage is a little stiff, so if driving on a cold engine the idle will get stuck around 900RPM. You can open the hood and manually move the linkage back to the idle position. Once it is fully warm on even the coldest day, you will not have an issue. I usually did not have an issue with this due to the fact that I let it warm up on the cold mornings. The linkage gets stiff with the gunk around it and that inhibits its movement. I cleaned it out once which helped a lot, but now it seems to be slowly creeping back. The sunroof and motor work perfectly but the switch is a bit funky. Dash is in great condition, the wood is in good condition, there are some cracks in the clear. Odometer and trip both work too. Every now and then after it has sat out in the rain, it will idle high(1200rpm max). The electronic idle control seems to be fluctuating the idle speed. I fiddled with the wiring harness connector at the ECU and as it was moved around, the idle fluctuated. If it is not touched and it doesn't rain, there is no issue.

This is a great car, I don't want to sell it but with having a daily driver 190D, and with buying another w124 wagon I cannot keep it. The car can be driven as is anywhere, but I would recommend putting a headlight in if doing night driving.

Some answered questions and some more things I recalled

After sitting for a good part of this year, the brakes seem as if they are pitted. Driving it, there is a metallic noise that the longer I drive slowly goes away but not completely. I try and drive the car once a week and when I do, it is only about 20 miles max. I had it on a lift with the wheels off before the winter and the rotors and pads were fine and made no noise. There is a small oil drip, the light comes on at about 3500 miles and needs a minor top off. No other leaks that I recall. The locks work 100%, but I replaced the driver and passenger locks since they were seized. The trunk, ignition, compartment locks are the same, driver and passenger are on a separate key. Once in a while when the driver door is unlocked the alarm will go off, it must be with the sensor that is around the lock cylinder, I never fiddled with it.

This is a nice car, I've seen it many times... tempting for me but the last thing I need is another car!
