1983 300SD and stash of R12. Richmond, VA - $1500
1983 300SD – 471,000 miles - $1,500
I’ve finally decided it’s time to part ways after 15 years of ownership and teaching me pretty much everything I know about car repair. She has gone from my daily driver, to occasional driver, “maybe - if the weather is nice” The main reason I’m selling is it’s no longer fun to work on her once I sold the house with a garage and got one with just a carport. The Good: Engine was rebuilt at 375k. Transmission has about 150k Lived in Charlotte, NC and Richmond, VA so minimal salt exposure. Haven’t driven it on ice myself in over a decade. Just replaced battery, starter and master cylinder. Valves adjusted 3k ago All calipers replaced in last 10k Throwing in spare parts – I was prone to add things to Peachparts orders to get free shipping. Extra full size spare with new tire on rim. Several oil/fuel/air filters Tie rod end, ball joint Set of Textar brake pads Spare thermostat Bunch of relays, switches and trim bits from junkyard EGR delete kit that I never installed Twelve 12oz cans of vintage R12 Freon Might as well throw in my adjustment wrenches too The Bad: Hood pad is falling apart. Moonroof is really balky, haven’t tried to open it in years. Rear passenger window is intermittent with some wiring issue. Confirmed motor, switch and actuator are good. Rear seat has tear on the small top center panel. (see picture) Tachometer is flaky. The cigarette butt trick hasn't worked and my soldering skills aren't up to redoing the amp. The Ugly: One small rust bubble between rear tire and taillight (see picture) AC isn’t working and it doesn’t “Just need a charge”. The compressor is seized, spun the belt off when it happened. I’m including the R-12, but there’s a lot of labor. I’ve probably been to open and scared a bunch of you off by now, but I don’t want someone driving out here and feeling misled. If you want pictures of something specific, let me know. Hopefully someone here want’s to restore this car with the TLC she deserves. If you want it as a parts car, please lie to me and say she’s going to be a driver. If you say you plan to run single tank WVO and call it bio-diesel, the price triples.
