Yeah, it's the 6-cylinder with the later head stamp (17). In Europe and Japan they continued to have the W124.133 combination (W124 6-cylinder turbo). In US, apparently only 1987's had the 6-cylinder. After which only the turbo 5-cylinder (300D 2.5) was available. I think MB maybe limited the US to the 5-cylinder to mitigate warranty repairs for the early #14 head cracking issues on the 6-cylinders they had been dealing with.

Maybe also because they wanted to upsell/force U.S. buyers seeking a six to buy an S-class.
