WTB: Any late w126 (1986+)

I am looking for one preferably in the midwest, would maybe look south, but I think California, etc. is a bit too far.

Price depends on condition. Would prefer little to no rust and under 200k miles. Not looking to spend a lot, in fact not over $3500 to tell you the truth. Don't care if it's a 560SEL, 420SEL, 300SEL, or a 300SDL. Want it to be a long wheelbase, so no SE's.
Thanks
David

Good luck.

I would never sell my 87 SDL for that .

Didn't expect any SDL's. Then again I didn't ask you if you would give me yours for that.
Thanks
David

David.. at that price you would have a hard time finding anything. I saw a black 420sel at the dealership the other day... had some minor rust on the doors and it was going for $5k. My friend is even pushing me to sell him my car for $5500... and I am reluctant to let it go at that price. Bottom line is that in this area of the US... its hard to find a good post 1986 w126 with little to no rust for the price you're willing to pay.

If you look at autotrader or cars.com, you'd be surprised in gact at which these sell for. I am currently looking at an '89 300SEL, they want $2500 for it, so I'm betting it's got high miles, which I could deal with, as long as it has a decent body.
Thanks
David

P.S.
If your referring to the 420 as the moneypit, it's mainly because the body is much worse than we thought. The PO had it repainted over rust which only makes things worse. We bought it off a dealer, so he probably didn't know about it, but the other issues with this car I could deal with no problem. Damn, I hate rust.

I think your idea of buying a top of the line Mercedes, for a bottom of the barrel price will result in dissapointment.

I'll warn you that I don't know anything about the w126s but this one doesn't look that bad for the price - one owner, 136K miles for $3800.

No, I don't expect a "top of the line". I just basically want a good body as I drive a w116, which as you all are aware are horrible rusters, and I would like to see a car that I can wash without washind pieces of the car off! I don't mind worn out seats, just as long as there aren't ears becasue if they have cracks, they can be filled then dyed by me. Engine work such as guides, lifters, I can do. Complete suspension rebuilds, I could aslo easily do. All I ask for is a good body and mediocre interior. They exist, as I've seen them, but i would like to buy one off a forum member since they are more prone to undserstanding the cars, thus at least always changing the oil. I received an e-mail from a member in California, wants to sell me his 420 that needs a lifter and some other minor interior work for $1500. That is a hell of a deal if you ask me, but it's also so far away that I spenmd twice the price of the car just getting it to me to put another $1,000+ into it.
Thanks
David

David,

I just put my new diesel on a truck in california and I am having it shipped to me in Maryland- cost is $810.00. Rust free 123 car.... I expect it to be here in a week or so.

Might want to look into this if you really want a rust free car.

Can't comment on the company I am using as the car hasn't made out here yet.

Mike

Just from my experience but W126 cars in this price range seem to easily double their price, by the time you get it cleaned up the way you want it. My $2500 SDL is now a $4,000 SDL and counting. My next W126 will be the nicest southern California car I can find. Projects are fun but if you have to rely on it to get you around everyday it can be a frustrating experience. It might be worth it to save some more money and start out with a nicer car.

I am selling my 560SEL AMG. I'd take 7G's for her, as I have invested over 3 grand in the last month. I will include all the original parts. I just "imported" her from Florida last year.

I agree with Snibble. PLUS, my mom doesn't want a ghetto ride, I wouldn't even have to ask. I don't mean any disrespect, but that is DEFINITELY not for her. That would be funny to see her driving it everyday though.

Hatterasguy, please give me an update on the progress of your car such as what's been done/ how it's performing. My dad still says that was the car he wants. So, if you ever consider selling...
Thanks
David
