1995 S420 trunk closing problems
I have 1995 S420 that recently started causing some minor problems with trunk not closing properly. I am told that it is a close assistant pump that is going bad and need replacing.
Talking to local MB dealer was a joke... Besides inspection fee of $250, they gave me an estimate of over $1,500 for this pump.. I should not get upset, as that is what dealer do, charge full retail.. However, I found this forum and I hope the members can help me to identify the part number (which the dealer refused to give me the part number, rather a description only) and then steer me to a online website that carries the part. Everything else is in a top shape with less than 120,000 miles and still driving great.. Thank you in advance and any help will be greatly appreciated. Levon |

I doubt the problem is the pump, but if it is, check out www.v12uberalles.com for how to sort out pump issues without buying a new pump. The pump has OBD and will disable a circuit if it senses a leak or blockage in that line. An easy way to check is to reset the pump by pulling fuse 9(?) in the fuse panel above the battery. Put back the fuse after 10 seconds or so then see if the trunk closes properly. In fact check if any doors that weren't closing previously are now closing.
A common problem in 140s is the trigger switch just to the left of the striker. The switch goes bad and doesn't signal the pump to pull down the trunk lid and/or retract the trunk handle. This switch was about $85 5 years ago. I wouldn't bother with a used switch. Sixto 87 300D |

I am removing and re-installing the fuse (in the trunk) and the trunk works fine and after using it few times of use, it start acting up again. I already changed the pump that resides under the back sit and since I did, all the doors and inside components are working perfectly. However, the trunk keeps acting up. The dealer at least stated it is that pump located in the trunk than needs changing, but will not give me any part number. Thanks, |

Part number is 140 800 08 48 up to VIN 151658, 140 800 16 48 or 140 800 17 48 (either) from VIN 151659.

The pump in the cabin is for central locking. The pump in the trunk is for closing assist. One of those pumps also supplies the lumbar mechanism.
If you buy a new punp, don't discard your old pump. It's not too difficult to get it working properly - http://www.v12uberalles.com/Closing_Assist_Pump.htm Sixto 87 300D |
