I have one of these with a metal fan. It will fit most of the engines that were put into the 123.

The metal fan will move more air and will help with engine cooling. But I think they do produce more noise. Not a lot, but if minimum noise is important to you then you need to stick with the plastic fan.

This would retail for about $500 new. I was asking $50 plus shipping from Oklahoma which would be dependent on where you are.

For a whole month you've been unable to find an operating clutch? Perhaps you should state how much you're willing to spend. That seems to be the issue. I needed a fan clutch for my car and purchased a new one the same day. They sell new parts on this site and used parts are all over the internet.

Few people have offered me used ones for $20-30 shipped, but they don't know if they're good.

What point are you making here? That I would prefer to spend $30 on a used fan clutch than several times that much on a new one? Yes, that is correct. We've confirmed the issue. That is why i'm here posting in the "parts" section, looking for a good used fan clutch. Congrats on you new clutch and auxiliary fan!

Take a look at the fan clutch I have sent photos of above. I would be willing to sell only the clutch if that is all you need.

And this one works. It came off a 300D, but unless you are talking about a 1985 car it should fit. Some, but not all, 123's used a clutch different from the one I have pictured.

$30 plus shipping is about what you would pay at a Pick N Pull type of yard.

What do you think?

Pooka, thanks again for the offer. I responded to this above, but should have been more direct. From what i've read here, the plastic fan has 9 blades and moves more air than the metal fan, as well as being lighter. My engine is a later model that came with the plastic fan and a different clutch. I'd like to keep the plastic fan and just replace the clutch.

^^^ The assumption made that the one clutch is for the 6 blade steel fan and the other clutch is for a 9 blade plastic fan is incorrect.

I have an '83 300D with engine number 12 40xxx and it originally came with 6 blade steel fan. The Behr clutch part number for that is 0002001922. Same part number for all later 9 blade plastic fan clutches.

300D
For models with engine serial number through 036024 - Behr part number 0002000422

For models with engine serial number from 036025 - Behr part number 0002001922

EDIT: Added addition model info.

300CD
For models with engine serial number through 003977 - Behr part number 0002000422
For models with engine serial number from 003978 - Behr part number 0002001922

300TD
Information I have is all engine numbers - Behr part number 0002001922

300SD
For models with engine serial number through 039510 - Behr part number 0002000422
For models with engine serial number from 039511 - Behr part number 0002001922

The description from the above link of it being a centrifugal clutch and coming on at 3,000 rpm is totally incorrect. I wouldn't trust the assumptions on that post.

But getting back to your question, I have two good 0002001922 clutches with 9 blade fans intact that I can sell for 60 bucks each plus shipping.
