More crankshaft position sensor questions
1 Attachment(s)
Having some tough luck.
Ordered a Sensor online. Even gave the vendor my VIN. Paid $80+ at 1st glance looked right. It has the wrong electric hook up. Non returnable. I am out $80. I was sent the Flywheel interlock double f6010-70575 My next purchase is Crankshaft position Interlock single f6010-140094. My questions are why ? are these different ? ? what does double and single mean ? Why 2 types for same engine? If only they had pictures of these parts before I order. The one I have is so close yet so far. I will update this post if the CPS interlock single works or not. ANY input welcome. I'm all ears.Note my sensor has the elect clip guide on the back side from the mounting bold. My erroronous $80.00 replacement has the guide on the side. Cant go anywhere with my old sensor on my work bench. And my new one not fitting, http://sensors.jpq SEPTEMBER 20 UPDATE. 2nd sensor arrived this morning. It fit even though the Bosch stamped numbers on the side were not the same. I installed it in 60 seconds. 1st 3 short test drives a success. No Stalling. But check engine light came on for 1st time. 2005 UPDATE: All is well- my problem was the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Happy Trails. |

Is this what the sensor looks like?
Is the OEM part# 0031532828? |
Does not look like my CPS
only the lower 2/3rds
the top has more of an oval where the connections plugs in. |
Yeah, I don't think they use that "coax" style electrical connector anymore.

Follow-up to CPS fix
Steve Danville: Great write up. Do you have a picture of the sensor you could NOT use. Perhaps it will fit my 1999 ML430. (I could not view one of the pictures in your 9-18-2004 post). Thanks and happy holidays.

Cps Replacement
the only picture I have is the post up 6 frames from this one.
I dont have the non fitting CPS any longer. The vendor was nice enough to allow me to send it back to my surprise. Good Luck. |
ml430-where is this sensor?
i can't find anything that looks like the diagram that's posted. is it different on a ml430??? thanks
|
Ml
i am only guessing
but displacement of the CYL should be the big diff not the location of the sensor. it is on the drivers side of the engine. and i dont mean back. i mean right side if you are standing with your belt buckle on the radiator. if i recall about 2/3rd of the way back of the engine..and 1/3 the way down - use a flashlight and look for some wires going to a clip on elect fitting - take that off and you will see and inch or two black round sensor. I may have even found it 1st timw by fondling around for it. THis is on the ML320-I know nothing about the others. |
thanks, i'll try again. the ml graphic doesn't look like my engine and i thought perhaps it was different for a ml320. i've got a 430

crankshaft position sensor
guys, i'm looking like nuts for this thing. i've got a ml430-8 cylinders- don't see anything like it anywhere. could it be that it's different on a 8 cylinder? is there an engine diagram schematic deal somewhere??? thanks.

ml430 crankshaft position sensor
ok, are we talking about an item that has about 4 wires coming into it, and maybe 2 going out? it's not connected to the engine.
|
Drawing is of the V6 not the V8
Fyi......

No, the sensor is attached to the top of the bell housing (reads off of the teeth on the flywheel) it's behind the drivers side cylinder head, very hard to see it, have to try to look or feel between the head and firewall. Has 1 connector, I think 3 wires, not sure, and has 1 screw retaining it to the bell housing. It fits inside a bore, aimed towards the ring gear.

Cps
hey guys, you were exactly right!!! ordered the part online, had a friend install it. as described, it took a little while to locate and figure out how to reach this part of the motor, but after that got settled it was a relatively easy fix. the dealer and regular mechanics told me it was a egr valve and i also need spark plugs- it would have spent over $1000 chasing them items around and STILL would have had to replace the CPS. Super help- thanks to everyone- the car is now running great!
