Mercedes is rusting at its half life.

I read Mercedes were built to go 250,000 and 15 years minimum. My 99 is rusting.
I have bubble rust on my filler lid, around the Star on the tail gate and the whole frame.
I noticed it a year ago but as I waxed over the rust today I started thinking, maybe Mercedes, wanting to be known as one of the best Cars in the world has a 10 year rust warranty. Anyone know the Mercedes Rust warranty ? Hyundai, Lexus, & Porsche has a 10 year warrenty.

Steve, rust warranty is the same as new car warranty for MB. My tailgate was rusting around the handle, I caught it right after my new car warranty was over and was able to get a good will from my dealer to replace the whole tailgate and repaint.

I thought the filler lid is plastic, how could it rust? your rusting spot on the tailgate is kind of odd. The frame rust is bad on mine too, but again, it's nearly 10 years in the harsh midwest winter, can't complaint.

My 99 430 has had the EXACT same filler door rust. I have repainted it twice. The new MLs have plastic doors (thankfully). I was able to get some color mathced rattle can paint and clearcoat over the web, and it woks pretty well. Can't get it quite as shinny, but since the door is seperate from the rest of the fender, it is hard to notice.

If you do take it off and re paint it, you will need to get the 4 plastic "rivets" that hold the inner trim piece on (the thing with tire pressures and the lock holder. Only way to take them off to paint the inside back is to break them off. You cannot just leave that part off, as if you do, the door closes too far.
