2001 ML320 - is it still under warranty?

The g/f has a 2001 ML320 SUV that she bought used 2 years ago from a non-MBZ dealership that was a trade-in.

It has 66K on the clock and the Cat Converter is going bad.

Is this covered under the factory warranty, and if so, how does one go about having the work done?

Thanks.

I think you need to read the warranty booklet that comes with the vehicle - you can order one from Mercedes - it should cover catalytic converters in the federal portion of the warranty. Also the www.nhtsa.gov or epa.gov sites should cover what the government reguires of vehicle emission components.

If you use the search feature here I think this issue with ML's and converters has been discussed recently.

Any Mercedes dealer you choose would be required to perform the repair.

Also, go to www.mbwholesaleparts.com and click on STARTUNED magazine use the search feature and find the article about catalytic converters, this is a Daimler/Chrysler site and this article will teach you all you need to know before taking your car in. If you have trouble finding the article post back.

Good luck

On the ML's there is a service campaign(2005060014) on the catalytic converters....The Ml320 campaign covers trucks from chassis A 036519 to A 260405...

The ML 430 is covered from a 057639 to A 206575..

All cars/trucks have catalyst emission warranty for either 7yr/70K miles OR 8yr/80K from the factory.

Under body damage can revoke that warranty.

catalytic converter recall

Does anyone know if/when this campaign expires? Is there a mileage or time limitation on the vehicle to qualify?

Mine gave way 07/18. Service Campaign "no expiration" is closed. Not a bad repair. Cut behind failed cat. unbolt from exhaust manifold. and have a shop reweld. Couple the cut, no codes.

I should think any good muffler shop could install a quality convertor. If you do have it replaced keep the old one. These things will sell on Ebay for the metal content.
