As predicted, MAF
The wife's 2000 ML320 had a CEL this weekend that went out on its own. I had her go ahead and take it in. I told her that I bet I could guess which part they replace. Sure enough, I was right. All this time reading about all the part failures on the ML and keeping up with my own list left me with only three parts that hadn't been done yet. MAF, Crank sensor and fuel pump. Now awaiting the CPS and pump.

I just put in a new CPS to be safe. I've not had a MAF go yet.
How many miles on yours when the MAF needed to be replaced? And how often to you change your air filter? Could that have anything to do with MAF sensors failing? |

Quote:
You only need to replace a MAF if a CEL light is on and diagnostic codes will be PO170 and PO173 |

We are at 68,000 miles and the filter has been replaced during normal A or B service. Can't remember if it's both or just the B service where they replace filter. Car is 90% dealer maintained. I do brakes and mid-FSS oil change as required by extended warranty.
Isn't it interesting that the extended warranty purchased from the MB dealer requires 5k mile oil changes when the car demands only 10-12k? |

I bought a Code reader today at Sears. $79.00
Rough idle and check engine light is on. Code PO170 and PO173 again. Last week replaced the Mass air flow sensor. and plugs. 20,000 miles ago replaced the fuel pump and filter and cats. Also last Friday the Dealer charged me $80 to reroute a vacuum line. The multi mis fire codes are gone and its now drivable - - but she isnt right. Still looking for the Cure. I wonder how many MAS are defective out of the box. I am starting to understand why people lease.

The extended warranty purchased from the dealer is almost certainly from an after-market provider. Dealers have quickly discovered that selling after-market warranties is highly profitable!!!
