What should the voltage read on the battery

hello,

On my 2003 G500. With a floating charger I fully charged the battery with it still fully connected to the G. I let the battery sit for about 1 hour. And mesured the voltage. It only measured 12v.

Is this an indication that the battery is about to go. On my ML and slk when I do the same the battery will ready 12.5v after fully charged and connected to the car. I am thinking this could be how the battery is connected and what the current drain level is on each turck.

What do you folks measure on your G after full charging the battery (or after a long drive).

The G still seem to start strong.

As with most posts, an answer requires more information. Generally, a fully charged battery which is disconnected should measure 12.6 volts with no load on it (a simple volt meter). Now, if the battery is still in the truck, even if you think it is "off" there could (and will be) some small draws on the battery, larger draws if something is wrong. However, if nothing is wrong and the truck is just parked, all lights off, on "standby", you should read 12.5-12.6. BUT, if you are measuring the voltage with a battery tester that puts the battery under load, then a 12.0 volt reading is great.

The big question, why did you put it on a charger in the first place? If it was because you ran it dead, 1 hour on a trickle charger is not enough to bring it back up to a full charge.

Should read in the 12.5V range.

Have you had recall done for voltage regulator? Most 2002 & later M113 engines have overcharging issues.

Have dealer run VMI for open campaigns

I am pretty sure that this was done in my service. I remember my SA said something about a electrical regulator, did not know it was related to the charging system. And how much over charging are we talking about will it be enough to wreck the battary.

Is 12.5v what you guy/gal are measureing after letting the car sit for about a hour. Because I mesure 12.5v too immediately after driving.

Also I was charging the battary because I don't drive the G500 so much. I try to charge the battary with a floating charger like once a month.

thanks
