ml320 aux. fans

My wifes ml320 check eng. light came on and comp. says its aux. fan problem.checked 44 fuse-good.fans don't turn when engine gets hot or when ac is on!Swaped relays in fuse box-nothing.Pulled plug at fans, checked voltage-nothing.Fans turn freely by hand.Is there some kind of senser that turns on the aux.fans and could that be my problem?Trying to get car inspected but can't because of check eng. light!!!
Thanks for any help!!!!

why don't you scan the code to find out what tripped the CEL. I don't see how the aux fan problem would trip the CEL. plus I don't think in winter time the fans will kick in even if you turn on the A/C, the temperature is just not hot enough.

thats true, I've done tons of them where the fuse for the aux fans is blown and the customer is oblivious to this. no ck eng light on either.

I'm assuming youre talking about a 163 because you mentioned fuse 44. a 164 will set off a warning if the engine fan doesnt work.

Probably the fuse panel itself, assuming everything you've said is true.

replacing a part is not going to make the light go off alone, you will need to erase the code.
