Intermittent CEL - codes 161, 173

Hello,

My wife's '99 ML 320 has on/off CEL. Codes 161 & 173 point to heating circuit malfunction for LR O2 sensor. The strange thing is that this sensor was replaced 1.5 yrs ago. Could it go wrong after such a short time?
