FS: 1981 Mercedes-Benz 300GD Diesel
Thought I'd post this since it looks pretty nice and I've noticed some people around here in the market for something along these lines.
http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/cto/1980986395.html Model/Series: 300GD, W460 Model Year: 1981 VIN: 46033317015317 Miles: 137,753 Engine: OM 617, 3.0L 5-cylinder Mercedes-Benz Diesel Transmission: 4-Speed Standard Driven train: Rear-wheel/four-wheel with high-4 I, high-4 II, and low gear. Front and rear manual hydraulic locking differentials. Interior: Tan color suede leather seats with vinyl trimming. MB-Tex flooring, black plastic/metal dashboard. Safety features: Massive military grade frame, 3-point seat belts in all seats minus the rear center which is only a lap belt. Other Features: Tint, CD stereo. 5 full size Mercedes-Benz steel wheels. Factory original “Tropical Roof” this is essentially a second roof on top of the main roof so that there’s roughly a 2 inch gap in between allowing for air to insulate the cabin keeping it cool in very-hot weather. Has “barn-doors” or “ambulance” style rear doors Overall great shape for age, interior is good, no tears on seats, dish and center console is good a few small holes from previous owner’s CB radio. The motor is the same durable diesel motor thats seen in the 300D and 300SD sedans. This motor is a factory original non-turbo which is the way they came up to 1989. Hand-built in Graz , Austria since 1979 and are still being built as the W463 series. YES this car will run on Bio-Diesel or WVO. Space is incredible, rear seats fold down for hauling anything you want. If you’re thinking of a diesel wagon- this one trumps the size of cargo space a 300TD has. Motor and transmission run very strong, shifts and operates like new, clutch is very good. Not meant to be fast but it will get you anywhere you want to go reliably, safety and in style. This is a real German workhorse. Body shape: no accidents or body damage, there are some scratches but not that affects appearance too much. Absolutely no rust on frame, undercarriage, suspension components anywhere. No water leaks of any kind; 4WD system works perfect, tires are in good shape Recent-work: -New fuel lines for bio-diesel -Valve Adjustment -Fuel Filters, Oil and gaskets replaced. Have all receipts Licensed and titled in Washington State VIN: 46033317015317 No accidents Call: 425-922-2523 $12,500 OBO 300D 300SD 240D 300TD G-class 240GD 230GD 280GD G500 Mercedes Diesel

Hmm, has the rear barn doors, don't see that very often.
I dread to think how slow this one is with a 617 if it's non-turbo.....

I don't think they ever came with a 617 turbo. They did make a 240GD however. Talk about slow... |

I'm pretty sure you're right (A number of 617 turbo conversions have been done though) I drove a NA 617 300GD that was a SWB with a manual and I thought it had plenty of power. Skip foward though to a later W463 300GD LWB automatic and it was a completely different matter..... What a great day test driving old Mercedes I would imagine that a 240GD would probably feel similar.
