A little D.I.Y. help, please.
Would anyone be able to let me know if there are any special mercedes only tools required to change the driveshaft centre support bearing in my '99 ML320? also, a step by step procedure would be helpful. It will be done in a fully equipped shop by an experienced tech, but it's a Ford shop. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Center Support Bearing
No special tools required! Mark your shaft positions front and rear and remove the socket head bolts note:Sometimes you have to take a small torch and melt the loctite to break them loose. Two 17 mm bolts at center support bracket and remove shaft.paint mark shaft locations, remove u-joint flanges
then remove locknut and use a two jaw puller and remove flange from end of shaft. Then take a punch to drive old bearing support of shaftat inner race. Place the new support and bearing in SAME Direction on shaft, I use a pipe the size of the bearing inner surface and drive it on with deadblow hammer A deep 36mm 12point chrome snap-on socket works also. good luck Tim Last edited by Benztech; 06-23-2007 at 01:05 AM. |
