Starter Problems
Starter problems – Here’s the background, the car initially started fine & was driven for about 40 miles. Stopped to get gas (the attendant may have topped it off) and it would not restart. The fuses were check okay & a battery jump did not help.
Possible considerations: Battery, Fuel system, Starter, Keys, & Ignition system.
I had to take a flight out the next day & had my dogs in the back so I opted to just have it towed back home. I reviewed the car chip data for that trip and did not see any issue with the voltage or battery. Also, I checked this discussion form & my manuals for possible solutions to fix this issue. “Click, Click” & no engine crank over.
Tried a new Battery – still did not start & has the same indications.
Used a different key & the valet key - still did not start & has the same indications.
Wolfgang’s website has some great stuff – I wanted to test the fuel pump & there is a describe amperage test to do this check. However, have one question about checking the current draw for the fuel pump system. Will this check be valid when the car does not even crank over? I setup my meter to capture the reading but got nothing. Just not sure if this current draw is suppose to be present during the startup/cranking process or if it should be present when the key is turned to the 2 position. I had a fuel pump failure on a GMC truck before – but the engine tried to crank over with that particular issue. Plus, I could turn the key to energize the system and take voltage readings. The fuel pump was being energize but intermittently seized up (stopped working) normally after an hour or so drive.
