If you own a 2007+ Sprinter, you should open your browser to
http://www.dodge.com/owners.
Enter your VIN to see if you drive one of the nearly 40,000 Sprinters that should have an ECM reprogramming to correct an emission problem involving the EGR system of your OM642.
Question: are other OM642 engines - installed in the MB USA, LLC vehicles like the GL 320 cdi or the ML 320 cdi - being targeted as well?
Here's a snippet from the dealership instructions sent out by Chrysler on the 26th of Feb 2009
Subject: "The Engine Control Module (ECM) on about 39,100 of the above vehicles may not actuate the EGR valve sufficiently to prevent soot accumulation, resulting in improper valve operation or sticking. Improper valve operation may cause excessive exhaust emissions, illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp and a vehicle in limp-in condition.
Repair: The Engine Control Module (ECM) must be reprogrammed (flashed).
