Ml320 buttons

Hello all,

being new to the ML crowd, And the car not having a manual, I would like to know what the three buttons on the headliner are for, as well as the little switch on the dash center console that says auxillary? I was thinking that the three buttons on top is for a programmable garage door opener and the auxillery switch is for some lighting, but I tried to use both and nothing happened. The car is a 2000 ML320. Thanks for any replies.

You can't just "try" a garage door opener button--you have to program it using your door's control.

You can easily get an owner's manual from your dealer of by calling 800.for.merc

There might even be one online if you go to mbusa.com and sign up at "owners online."

I did that. On my buddies Land rover, you just hold the button down while you hit the garage door opener and it will program it. It didn't work. Maybe I did it wrong.

Most garage door openers manufactured after 1995 have a "rolling code" feature that requires a bit more effort to encode.

There are some additional steps.

Point the garage remote to the overhead console for the first step. After that, there is a button on your garage unit that you have to push to let it accept the code from the console.

Do a search on "Homelink" and there are threads that contain exact instructions for programming your remote.

3 buttons on headliner = Garage door opener
Aux = Aux lights that you can populate next to your head lights. Will give you some extra light when driving at night. Just buy the bulbs (~$10) and you are all set.

Fog Light

On the 1999. you cannot just buy bulbs and be all set. The button requires programming by the dealer to "enable" the fog light rocker switch to function. Not sure about the 2000.

I'm sorry but I totally disagree. I own a 99, and all I had to do is populate the light bulbs. In fact, when I called my dealer he suggested I start by trying to populate the bulbs and hitting the button.

Of course, if that doesn't work; one would have to take it to the dealer.

They should be the same. Just populate the bulbs and hit the button. You should be all set.

If the dealer had enabled for the previous owner or they enabled before the sale, sure you don't need to do a thing, just pop in the bulbs. However, it is indeed a dealer enabled item and not all ML (at least those pre-face lift) are sold with the fog light enabled. You are just lucky to have it already enabled. Most dealer will do it for free when you purchase the truck new, others will charge half hour for the job (that takes 2 minutes!!!).
