Oil Level Sender

The oil level sender on my 2000 ML 320 is intermittent.

As they seem to be a freqent problem I want to DIY it.

Some Qs before I get into it.

1) Is this doable in garage with jack stands or is a lift mandatory (in the mind of the experienced techs in the crowd)?

2) Unbolt motor mounts or not?

3) Lift engine at bellhousing using block of wood/hockeypuck ok? 1/2 inch seems to be the necessary lifting from the searching I've done. I have a nice aluminum racing jack that I use for everything. Is this enough to get the clearance for lower pan?

It seems like a workable enough DIY. The ML has pretty good clearance in the front end. I have done lots of car projects with just jacks and a creeper. While I am not gonna pull a transmission with this setup, the lower pan seems approachable enough with basic garage setup.

TIA for your answers and help!

I'll post DIY in full upon completion.
