Deisel G Wagens?

How difficult is it to find Deisel G Wagens in the US? I've heard that they were sold in Canada, but not officially in the US. I've seen one deisel model in Vienna, VA that the owner told me he bought in Austria, I believe.

Its hard enough finding any grey market G's nevermind diesels. Keep one thing in mind, the 1980s diesel Gwagens had NON-Turbo engines and will be pretty slow. I drove a 280GE the other day and was very very impressed with it. It had more then enough power. I'm surprised that people complain about them (Granted it was the soft top version)

280GE....what should I expect?

I'm guessing your talking about the one in Maryland. That looks pretty good the only problem I would have is that its right hand drive.... Whats bad about the standard wheelbase?

Also theres a 350GD for sale in MO problem is its a 350 (Avoid)

I am just partial to the long 4 door, these things are too expensive to get a short when a jeep could handle it for cheaper--but the short has a good bit less mass to move around.-I think the one in maryland is not the one i saw, I do two different searches benz g wagon and benz g class

They have never been officially sold in North America. Several of them have been brought in as grey market imports.

The ad in that link claims 30MPG. Does that sound right? Would the longer wheelbase be pretty close to the same mileage as that?

I love how lots of these clueless sellers will state that. Just because the smaller lighter more aerodynamic cars get figures like that doesn't mean that a G with the same engine will do the same.....I think 20MPG is about the most you can get out of any gray market model....and thats pushing it. (Don't quote me on that, i'm a pretty rusty on my G knowledge these days)

Guess a 90-91 model would still be the best bet then. Damn that Texas one is really tempting me now...

Has anybody seen that new Volkswagen comercial where the guy is bragging to his next door neighbor about the mileage he gets with his Prius? Then the next door neighbor tells him he gets 40 or 50 or something like that with his new deisel VW.

Maybe Americans will finally start to appreciate the deisel engine more, once they really look into it.

Yes, it is; but it is no military prototype - not with that incomplete VIN the seller is providing.

Oh yeah definatly not a prototype of any sort. It looks way too close to regular wolfs for that. If anything I wouldn't call it that special. Military G's can and are often configured in thousands of unique ways.
