1999 ML430 ATF change--ATF hot or cool?
Should ATF be changed hot or cool?
Some instructions for changing ATF say to first bring the transmission fluid to operating temperature. Other instructions say to change ATF while it's cool. Forgetting that a 1999ML 430 was never intended to need a change, which is the correct way--hot or cool? Thank you--Jim

I'd do it hot, will run out better. The longer you can let it drip the better. The 99 should have a TC drain plug as well, a definite plus.
I'd check to make sure it has the magnetic patch in the bottom of the pan when you take the pan down, if not it can easily be added. A 99 may or may not have it, it's recommended to be put in there in the event the pan is removed. Gilly

Yes, the Torque Converter does have a drain plug.
Is the magnetic patch an MBZ part or a generic auto store item? Is there a preferred placement spot or just wherever it fits without interference? Appreciate the help, Jim

It's an MB part. I might have one. It would fit in the pan, sort of in one of the boxes that the pressed-in ribs make in the bottom of the pan.
