which year ML to buy?

99,2000,2001,2002,and 2005 cdi
. Can't afford newer than that. With one had to balance shaft issue,oh yes the 6 cylinder engine is all I want.I wanted a 430 but that engine has major problems will stick with the 320,so delete 2003.plans are gut mufflers and cats use one Borla muffler,125 wet shot sniper system.

Buy a 430

Who told you the 430 has a problem? The 430 has the same design as the 6 cylinder except there are 2 cylinders more. The problem here on this forum is most cars posted on here on not serviced properly and people are just bad mouthing the engine. Buy a 430

I would be careful of the bluetec diesels. A friend had one of the newer ones (a 2010 I think) and it left him stranded numerous times in the cold, and not for the usual, "hard-starting in the cold" diesel reasons. This happened in VA & WV, not exactly polar conditions.

He was back & forth to the dealer a bunch more times and eventually got fed up and sold it.
