Coolant pump

Gang:

During todays return commute, I noticed a non-speed related whine coming from the right front.

Upon arrival, I left the Benzo running and traced the sound to be the an electric fluid/coolant "booster pump" (not sure the correct nomenclature). There is a coolant line leading to this pump from the engine block then out to the dash area (heater core perhaps). I can post an image it need be.

After a minute or so, it stopped but I'm unable to tell at the present time if the pump has died or recovered.

Any ideas or past experiences?

Benz is a 98 ML320 w/ 119K miles

Robert
