Question Re-set of Check engine & Oil light

I read the replies to the Check Engine light and the dangers of disconnecting the battery. The problem is, after reading all the responses, I am still not clear on how you can re-set it.

Also, I do my own oil/filter changes and would like to re-set the oil light. I do this on my 325ic and it is quite simple once you know how.

Can anyone help with these two items ?

Thanks, in advance.

If there is still a fault in the engine control system, you can't really reset the check engine light, the code needs to be cleared. IF however, there was some problem that is now corrected, like a loose fuel cap, then the code will eventually clear itself, so to speak, and the light will go out itself. usually in a week or two, depending on how often the truck is driven.

The oil reset is actually easier than the BMW. It is explained in the owners manual better than I can, but here's my version:

With engine off, turn the key to "on" (to the second click, the point at which most of the warning lights on the dash are on).
There is a knob that is used to switch from the regular odometer to the trip odometer. Immediately after turning the key to "on", touch that odometer button twice rapidly, the miles to the next oil change are displayed. Now you hold that same button in, then turn the ignition to "off", then back to "on", and just keep holding that button down. It will take about 10 seconds, keep holding it down and the cluster will beep, and the odometer will read "10000", it is now reset.
