German's Hate diesel G-Wagens?

Soooo.... what do yall think of this. A friend of mind from Germany PMed me this about diesel G-Wagens

Quote:
Mercedes had trouble with all diesel engines build after 85 (about 85).
The 300TD is a hated engine in Germany , it blows head gaskets.
The non Turbo was OK. After that the diesel engines from MB where POS. The 290GD lasts about 50k miles than its time for a new one , those damm heads always cracks and it loves to eat head gaskets. The 350 is the same POS ! CDI and CRD engines are the biggest crap on earth !! You are happy if you getting 20k miles out of them !! That is not my opinion that is the truth ! Go to a MB dealer in Germany and visit the repair shop ! Or go to a Jeep dealer in Germany (they have theCDI- CRD engines too) They hate those MB diesel engines . Everybody that has something to do with cars in Germany knows never buy an MB diesel. The 200 and 250 are the only engines that last 200k mile no problem. but those thing are super slow ! Oh I forgot the 400 CDI is an electronic nightmare, noboby realy knows how it lasts because they never realy run.
I know this stuff for sure because one of my friends in an Mercedes guy (engineer)and my other friend is an TUV inspector

Yeah, he's right. Those 60 series MB Diesels are junk, up until the 606 motor.
The ones in the 124 and later 126's, the 602 and 603? Bad News.
617 motor is a tough ol engine though, much better than the 60 series.

The 60x engines are NOT junk. In fact, they are probably one of the best MB diesels built, surpassed by only the 616 and 617 engines!

The reason MB had so many problems with the heads was a design defect. But, Mercedes redesigned the heads 3-TIMES, and now they are a very strong engine. Not to mention the removal of the trap that MB did for FREE,

I have seen 602 engines in 300D 2.5 turbos go out of time very often. It seems to be common in those cars,

The 350 engines were a disaster, but MB rebuilt those engines, after failue, with stronger, more reinforced connecting rods,

The OM606 is nice too, but due to MB for scheduleing 10K mile service itervals(via FSS), they are starting to develop noises in the bottom-end from lack of maintenence.

I have a strong link to Germany since my future wife is German and I can tell you that’s not what I have seen there. In fact her family wouldn’t drive any thing else. Her father drove a G for almost 20 years, up until last year when he changed it for a new ... G model. I don’t think this is isolated case since most cars you see on the street are German brands, Mercedes, VW, BMW and Opel. Same brands, very popular in Portugal like Fiat are difficult to find there. I can also say that besides de ML every one here fells that if you are going for a real car you ill have to get a Mercedes.
